Eugene Tan had over 40 years of human resource experience in the private sector.
His first job was with the Singapore Police Force in 1969. He left the Force in 1972 to join Singapore Airlines and since then have worked in various industries ranging from manufacturing to hospitality. Amongst some of the companies were Hume Industries, Diethelm Manufacturing, Leblond Machine Tools, Cold Storage Holdings, Sheraton Hotels, Scotts Holdings, Oakwood Asia Pacific and Shangri-la Hotels and Resorts; with regional responsibilities. After his retirement in 2010, he joined YTL Hotels and Resorts based in KL until 2015 when he returned to Singapore. In 2015, he was a Consultant for Employer Services with TAFEP (Tripartite Alliance for Fair and Progressive Employment Practices) and recently as a Senior Mediator with TADM (Tripartite Alliance for Dispute Management).
He was instrumental in introducing Deming’s concept of Total Quality Management principles into the Hospitality industry when he was with the Sheraton Hotels and Resorts. He had given talks on Customer Service at various public conventions and bodies and institutions like the CPF Board, URA, Ngee Ann Quality Centre. As a Senior Mediator with TADM, he is able to assess industry HR practices in tandem with labour laws requirements.
Eugene obtained a Diploma in Adult Education with the University of British Columbia, Canada and a MBA with MacQuarie University, Sydney, Australia.
